2.0 Diesel td4 ingenium turbo replacement

What is a turbo?

A turbo is a part of the air intake and exhaust system on an engine. It uses exhaust gasses to power a turbine to pump fresh air into the engine.

Why do they fail?

Most of the time they fail due to lack of maintenance and poor oil quality. This is due to long service intervals and high oil dilution. The core part of the turbo is a turbine that spines at high RPM, the turbine has bearings that allows it to spin. Over time these bearings can wear causing excessive room in the turbine. This then allows oil to pass into the intake and exhaust sides of the turbo. If this goes untraced it can cause major damage to the engine.

What are the symptoms of a failing turbo?

Some symptoms you may notice are listed below.

Excessive smoke from the exhaust.

A whistling noise from the engine bay, this may change at different RPMs.

Engine management on the dash.

High oil consumption.

How do you repair this fault?

This is quite a straight forward repair that involves removing parts from around the turbo. Once the turbo is removed we fit a new OEM turbo. These are the same turbos that come on the vehicles from the factory. Fitting an OEM turbo allows us to provide original parts cheaper than a genuine part from the dealer. Once the turbo is fitted and all other parts refitted, we carry out an oil and filter change and reset the turbo adaptions. This is followed by a road test and final checks.

How do look after my turbo?

The best way to do this is to carry out regular oil and filter changes, keeping the oil in good condition and having low oil dilution will help the life of the turbo.
