A timing belt is a rubber belt that connects the bottom and top parts of the engine. They are also used to run fuel and water pumps on some engines.
The 3.0 V6 has a front timing belt that connects the crank and camshafts. It also rear belt that runs the high pressure fuel pump. These belts are part of the service schedule and require replacing at 7 years or 112,000 miles which ever comes first.
If your timing belts are overdue for replacement it is possible they could fail. If a timing belt fails/snaps it can cause catastrophic engine damage. So if they are overdue or you have no history its best to replace them.

This engine is in many JLR models and the time it takes to replace them varies on the model. We advise customers to leave the vehicle with us for the day. This allows us to replace the belts, carry out a road test and do our final checks.
